AGC Member Company Wins Stimulus Project, Saves and Adds Construction Jobs

AGC member company Pike Industries Inc., will begin work on Route 101 in New Hampshire next month, reported the local WMUR.  Company president Christian Zimmermann was prevented from laying off workers thanks to the project, which will be the first state highway project funded by the stimulus.  Read the article.

Pike Industries Inc., will host U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood tomorrow, where they will announce 15 newly hired individuals as a result of the stimulus projects the company has been awarded.  Pike is also in the process of hiring another 30 people.

Congress Wraps Up Stimulus Package

While Congress has not yet voted on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, House and Senate negotiators have released details of the plan and expect a vote before the weekend.  All reports indicate significant infrastructure investment, as outlined in the AGC summary of infrastructure and public building investment provisions.

The Partnerships for Growth in Infrastructure Conference attracted a wide audience of contractors, public officials, private sector members and attorneys - all dedicated to discovering the risks and opportunities involved when forging public-private partner business relationships.

AGC of America and the National Council of Public Private Partnerships sponsored the meeting for contractors, public officials, private sector members and lawyer types to its first such conference on May 21.

Associated Contractors of New Mexico Presents Senator Pete Domenici with Industry Appreciation Award


Senator Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) will retire after more than 35 years in the U.S. Senate and 42 years of public service.  The Associated Contractors of New Mexico (ACNM), representing more than 200 highway and utility contractors and 15,000 employees, recently visited the Senator’s office and presented him with an “AGC Industry Appreciation Award.”  The visit coincided with the 2008 AGC National and Chapter Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.

  AGC CEO Meets with the Secretary of Commerce on Stimulus
AGC CEO Stephen Sandherr and Chief Economist Ken Simonson were among a handful of trade association leaders invited to meet with Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez to discuss the Bush Administration’s objectives in attempts to stimulate the economy.  During the discussion, AGC’s representatives urged the Administration not to discount the impact that a quick infusion of spending would have on the construction economy.
